Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a holistic subset of naturopathy, and the queen of all the therapies. The word 'homeopathy" is rooted in ancient Greek: omio (similar) and pathos (suffering). Classical homeopathy was first developed more than two hundred years ago by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician dissatisfied with the limitations and harsh side effects of most standard medical treatments. Homeopathy is a philosophy of health based upon Hahnemann's formalized treatment system. The system works with the body's own healing abilities to restore physical well-being. Exceedingly small doses of medicinal agents are used, each with the capacity to cause symptoms similar to those the sick person is experiencing. Homeopathy examines the physical symptoms of disease, but it also examines the mental and emotional manifestation of the disease in the person. It provides treatment for the entire individual.

A homeopathic healer will prescribe a very specific remedy for an individual using natural agents. The sick person will take an extremely small dose of this individualized remedy, and the body will begin to mimic the disease symptoms. When the remedy and the disease are producing the same symptoms, the body is forced to cancel them out, and the person is cured.

Because very small doses of natural homeopathic remedies are used, side effects are rare in individuals. The Food and Drug Administration classifies the remedies as over-the-counter products, so they are safe to take. Many prestigious medical journals have published studies on homeopathy noting the positive results of treatment. Mahatma Gandhi believed 'homeopathy cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment and is beyond all doubt safer, more economical, and the most complete medical science."
